Organize the Home Screen and App Library on your iPhone

You can set up a Focus to temporarily silence all notifications, or allow only specific notifications . By linking a Focus to your Lock Screen, your Focus settings apply when you use that Lock Screen. For example, you can create a single widget that shows you the battery percentage, step count, distance traveled, the date, and more. Power users will appreciate the complexity of the Widgeridoo app. Using Widgeridoo, you can have different data or information in different blocks, all in the same widget.

Starting in iOS 14, Apple brought support for third-party widgets on the home screen. And while Apple won’t let you change app icons as Android does, you can use the Shortcuts app to create, well, shortcuts for apps using custom icons. In fact, this feature works for all iPhones running iOS 12 and higher. Many of the layouts below call for customized app icons.

Other Status Symbols

Because this is not an official method, there is one downside. When you tap on a custom app icon, it will first launch the Shortcuts app, for a second, then it will open the app. Yes, it is an annoyance, but it might just be worth it.

Add widgets to your Lock Screen

This is a much better option if you want to know exactly where to find each app. Got a secret app you don't want anyone to know about? Use Shortcuts or iEmpty to create an invisible icon for it, then name it with an invisible Unicode character from Empty Characters.

Next, you should download apps for creating customized widgets. While you’ll find many apps on the App Store to do this, we would recommend you try Widgetsmith and Widgeridoo. Once you download the apps, read our step-by-step guide for creating custom widgets. Learn what the status icons and symbols at the top of your screen mean. You can add or take away Low Power Mode, the Flashlight, the Calculator, Voice Memos, and more.

Retrieve Deleted Text Messages iPhone

The latter replaces the default widget at a specific time. For instance, you can schedule upcoming calendar events to appear on the home screen only during the day. Use the Shortcuts app to create black, white, or gray icons for your favorite apps. Some system apps like Settings and Camera already use grayscale icons, so you don't need to worry about those. You may also need to remove apps from your Home Screen for some of the layouts below.

If this icon is yellow,Low Power Mode is on. If this icon is red, then your iPhone has less than 20% charge. This setting silences calls, alerts, and notifications until youturn it off.

For this Home Screen layout, remove every app from your Home Screen and send them to the App Library. You can then choose to add a single app or folder to the Dock. Or, if you prefer, keep your Home Screen completely empty and enjoy a clear view of your wallpaper. What we’re looking at here is a rethinking of how the iOS home screen works. After all, it’s changing for the first time in 13 years. You can use widgets to build that foundation, and add icons around the widgets.

With this layout, keep work-related apps on one page and entertainment apps that you only use outside of working hours go on another. The Dock loses its importance if you keep all your apps on a single screen instead of having them spread across multiple pages. So use a clever trick to hide your iPhone Dock instead. This could also be useful for anyone with color blindness, as you can choose colors for different app groups that you find easy to distinguish.

In this step, tap the shortcut icon to select your custom icon. But, don’t worry, it’s going to be worth it! As we mentioned at the top of the article, you’ll have to use the Shortcuts app to create shortcuts with custom images and names to open particular apps. While Widgeridoo is quite extensible, it’s a bit tricky to use. So, we would suggest you get started by customizing one of the prebuilt widgets. Widgeridoo lets you preview the widgets for free, but to add widgets to the home screen, you’ll have to pay for the $3.99 in-app purchase.

If you can't access Settings because your Home screen icons are magnified, double tap with three fingers on the display to zoom out. The icons in the status bar at the top of the screen provide information about iPhone. On an iPhone with Face ID, there are additional status icons at the top of Control Center. On your iPhone with Dual SIM capability, you’re in range of your cellular network and can make and receive calls. If there’s no signal, "No service" or "SOS" appears.

Home Entertainment Whether you want to build your own home theater or just learn more about TVs, displays, projectors, and more, we've got you covered. Check if you have accidentally moved that icon to a different screen page and/or "hidden" it into a folder. And for more iPhone customization, don't forget to customize your Lock Screen as well. This involves changing your wallpaper to one that conceals the dock. Fortunately, there are plenty of wallpaper options to choose from. For some wallpaper choices, you can swipe left or right to try different color filters, patterns, and fonts that complement each other.

Then, a custom widget allows you to add your own spin to how it looks. Widgetsmith is one of the most popular custom widget apps on the App Store, and we will use it to do this walkthrough. This iPhone Home Screen layout is the best for people who feel anxious about seeing too many notifications at once. Just group apps that use notification badges into urgent and non-urgent folders so you can see at a glance how many apps really need your attention.

Many third-party apps, especially productivity apps, have their own widgets. After upgrading to iOS 14 or higher, go to the widgets page to see new widgets for apps that you already use. Combine these two and you get some really impressive results. Just search for “#ios14homescreen” on Twitter to see some inspiring home screen setups. Everything from a Harry Potter theme, to Animal Crossing theme has been tried out. And not to mention, a retro iOS 6 theme.
